An Annual Report aligned with the present — and ready for the future
Annual Report 2024 — ICRA
A new strategic direction
In 2024, the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) entered a new phase. A new Strategic Plan, new leadership, and a deep internal transformation marked a turning point in the centre’s trajectory.
The Annual Report needed to accompany this moment — not as a summary of what had happened, but as a communication piece capable of expressing who ICRA is today and where it is heading.

Designing a clear, contemporary narrative
ICRA had a very clear strategic direction. Our challenge was to understand it in depth and translate it into a clear, visual communication piece aligned with the current context.
We approached the project as an exercise in listening and synthesis: organizing a large volume of scientific, organizational and strategic information, and transforming it into an accessible and coherent narrative. This was achieved through a close, collaborative working process with the ICRA team.
We chose an editorial approach where design, data and narrative work together, avoiding an overly technical reading. The report evolved from a 140+ page document to a 65-page version, where design became a tool to prioritize information, improve understanding and visually support ICRA’s strategic shift.

Beyond the numbers
One of the project’s main challenges was transforming data, indicators and scientific results into a clear and engaging visual system.
The ICRA in numbers section was designed as a set of modular, well-structured blocks that make the centre’s real impact easy to grasp at a glance.
Photography and graphic resources help contextualise the content and connect science, territory and purpose.

A digital-first format to maximize reach
For the first time, the Annual Report was conceived with a digital-first approach. It was developed as a standalone landing page in three languages, making it easier to share both locally and internationally.
The modular architecture and responsive design improve readability and comprehension. The digital format also allows content to be repurposed into micro-content for the website, social media or newsletters — strengthening ICRA’s narrative and enabling a more direct and continuous connection with its audiences.

A piece aligned with the future
The 2024 Annual Report accompanies the beginning of a new chapter for ICRA and consolidates a clearer, more visual and more coherent way of communicating its activity.
Beyond the format itself, the project demonstrates how an annual report can become a strategic communication tool — one that explains complexity, reinforces institutional positioning and builds long-term trust.
